NEWSWelcome
Welcome to the International Scholars Website, It has been our experience that International Faculty, Scholars, and Visitors have a tremendous positive impact on the Grand Valley Community. We encourage you to invite guests. Obviously, working with other countries, the United States State Department, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the Internal Revenue Service there are tremendous challenges put in front of all of us. With that in mind, we'd like to make the entire process as easy as possible for everyone and have put together this working document to assist Faculty and Departments in hosting International Visitors. There are three main visa types and immigration statuses that International Visitors can enter the United States holding. They are: B-1/B-2 (Visitor), J-1 (Exchange Scholar/Research/Faculty), H1B (Tenure Track Faculty). The three categories are differentiated by the length of time they are here, the purpose of their stay and the amount of money that they will receive. Another difference is the ease in obtaining that particular status (which is solely dependent on the United States State Department (at the point of visa issuance) or the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (if within the United States). Please browse through this website for details on paying International Visitors, Hosting International Visitors, and Being an International Visitor. As always, if you have questions feel free to contact one of us.
